About the Cheapskate's Guide to Computers and the Internet

For decades, I have watched friends, family members, and coworkers spend far too much money on computers. Often, these overly-expensive computers have failed to live up to their owner's expectations, resulting in unnecessary frustration and disappointment. I have tried to educate people about the fact that they do not need to spend nearly as much money as they may think for useful computers. Frequently, my words have fallen on deaf ears, but occasionally someone has listened.

Although I have wanted to create a website for a very long time, that did not happen until November of 2018. That is when The Cheapskate's Guide to Computers and the Internet was born. This website is dedicated to teaching readers how to save as much money as possible on computers and Internet services.

So far, Cheapskate's Guide has not received one penny of advertising money, and I expect that to continue for as long as the costs of hosting it continue to remain relatively small. That means this website should be free to tell the truth about over-priced computers and Internet services--rather than simply reflecting the goal of many other websites, to get readers to spend as much money as possible.

Cheapskate's Guide has also branched out to cover other interesting and important topics related to computers and the Internet. It now posts articles about online security, privacy, and freedom of speech that should be of interest to anyone who uses the Internet regularly. Additionally, it discusses noteworthy sites on the open Internet, interesting "darknet" sites, social networking topics, and the technologies associated with each of these. The primary focus of Cheapskate's Guide, however, remains unchanged.

While not everyone appreciates the pink theme, I do pay attention to readers preferences. That's why Cheapskate's Guide now has a search box at the top of the home page and an RSS feed. That is also why I try to support as many Internet browsers as possible, including text-only browsers. If your favorite browser doesn't work with this website, please let me know.

Cheapskate's Guide does not track or attempt to identify readers in any way--except when specific IP addresses must be observed or blocked when hacking attempts appear to be occurring or when robots begin using too much bandwidth. No one is asked to hand over his email address or any other personal information, and this website does not use cookies or ask anyone to register for anything. In order to preserve everyone's privacy, the only way to donate to Cheapskate's Guide is through bitcoin. As readers may understand from reading articles on this website, I care about privacy and free speech issues related to the Internet, and I try hard to make Cheapskate's Guide a reflection of those views. Meeting this challenge is one of the things I love most about running this website.

Please continue reading, and let me know what you think via your comments. I also appreciate readers posting links on social media to Cheapskate's Guide articles they like.
