Using the Library as Your Development Machine

Posted by: Libcurious on May 05th 2021,

I have yet to test this out, but am thinking about using the library computer as my dev machine. I will bring a usb stick loaded with portable apps to do this. Like git, notepad++, and C/C++.

Anyone ever try this?

I have not tried it, but I can think of no reason why it would not work. However, some libraries limit the amount of time patrons can use their computers.

i don't really see the benefit to doing this

The library can be a good place to get
work done. Scratch the homeless and
schoolchildren if it's a university
library.

I worked in a Library in the UK for 4 years before before retiring. Sometimes I used a public computer, but they used Windows and I preferred to use linux. I left a spare laptop there, so I could login from Linux on to the library's Wifi network during lunch breaks.
One day I ran Angry IP scanner and found the public area was served by 3 access points and there were also 3 hidden access points. Your library's Wifi network may be more interesting than you think

There is something that intrigues me about public places and services. I envision finding a nice public space to hang out and read a good book. Unfortunately, I haven't found one. I have recently begun taking the city bus and am finding it is not a bad source of transportation, especially to places where parking is difficult to find.
